In 1983, General Staff of PLA and China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC for short) founded a foreign trade company jointly. Xu Zhaolong, General Manager of CITIC then, named the company "Poly", which has the same pronunciation as Chinese word, meaning "secure victory"). P shape company badge of Poly Company is the first letter of "PLA", "POLY" and "POWER". It was designed by Lai Weiwu and Wang Xiaochao in 1987, signifying fist and representing belief and strength. Space inside "P" means holding today and looking into the future.
In 1993, on the occasion of 10th anniversary of foundation of Poly Company, He Ping, the General Manager, invited Mr. Qi Gong, famous calligrapher, to write "China Poly Group Corporation" in both abbreviated and complex fonts. In November 1994, Poly Company formally registered "P" and "Poly" trademarks and achieved trademark certificate issued by the National Industrial and Commercial Administration.
